The new research project, funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space (BMFTR) within the framework of the German-Ukrainian research cooperation for sustainable reconstruction “Data-Driven Strategies for Intelligent Resilient Renewable Energy Systems Under Wartime Conditions” (ReSE-Lab), was presented by Professor Dr. Stephan Weyers, Vice-Rector for Teaching, Studies and International Affairs (FH Dortmund), at the opening ceremony of the International Summer Convention (ISC 2026), which brought together 160 participants from various countries.

The scheduled launch of the project is on November 1st, 2026. Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts (FH Dortmund), National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” (NUZP), and West Ukrainian National University (WUNU) will collaborate on the implementation of this project.
The project focuses on the study of intelligent resilient renewable energy systems capable of operating under wartime conditions or withstanding physical and cyberattacks—a topic of paramount importance to Ukraine that is becoming increasingly relevant for the EU.
At the kick-off meeting on September 18, 2026, the partners discussed the joint development and research of three pilot solutions; each complements ongoing efforts to create intelligent resilient energy systems for university campuses in Dortmund (Germany), Ternopil (Ukraine), and Zaporizhzhia (Ukraine).

Professor Dr. Carsten Wolff (FH Dortmund) and Dr. Anzhelika Parkhomenko (NUZP) presented information on the ReSE-Lab project, covering its funding, implementation timeline, objectives, and the key expected outcomes of the German-Ukrainian collaboration. A presentation was given outlining the overall project schedule, the work packages structure, and key milestones.
The meeting participants discussed the planned activities and project implementation stages, including the allocation of initial responsibilities and the plan for further actions. It was emphasized that the ReSE-Lab project represents a step toward a long-term, shared research focus, thereby laying the foundation for future scientific projects.
More information about the ReSE-Lab project is available on the project website.
