FH Dortmund Delegation Visits KU Leuven to Advance Research and Academic Cooperation

From 18 to 20 August 2026, a delegation from Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts (FH Dortmund) visited KU Leuven in Belgium to further strengthen the long-standing partnership between the two institutions. The visit focused on exploring new opportunities for collaboration in research, education, and doctoral supervision.

The FH Dortmund delegation included Catrin Randersen, Prof. Dr. Björn Schäfer, Prof. Dr. Rolf Schuster, and Prof. Dr. Carsten Wolff.

The programme began at KU Leuven’s De Nayer Campus, where colleagues from both universities came together to discuss future joint activities in the fields of Automotive Systems Engineering and Edge AI. The discussions involved Peter Arras, Patrick Vandevalle, Thomas Dietzen, and Manuele Rusci from KU Leuven and provided a valuable opportunity to exchange ideas and identify areas for future cooperation.

On Wednesday afternoon, the delegation visited KU Leuven’s Arenberg Campus and met with Prof. Dr. Wim Dewulf, the new Dean of the Faculty of Engineering Technology. Together with Peter Arras, Dennie Jansen, and Loes Diricks, the participants reviewed the successful collaboration between the two institutions and explored new possibilities for joint initiatives in teaching, research, and international projects.

The visit concluded on Thursday morning at Group T Campus, where discussions focused on the doctoral studies of Catrin Randersen and opportunities for joint PhD supervision. The meeting, attended by Wim Van Petegem and Prof. Dr. Carsten Wolff, underlined the shared commitment of both universities to supporting young researchers and strengthening academic cooperation.

The visit once again demonstrated the close relationship between FH Dortmund and KU Leuven. Through regular exchanges and joint activities, both institutions continue to develop innovative educational opportunities, collaborative research projects, and international experiences for students and staff alike.
