EVENT INFORMATION
Introduction
With the mass market availability of Virtual Reality Headsets like the Oculus Rift and with technologies like LIDAR in current smartphones Virtual and Augmented have made the transition from being a niche technology to a being available for the major part of the population.
As those technologies still have a certain novelty factor and are considered “eye catchers”, one of the many application areas is marketing.
Learning Content and Methods
In this 2-week BIP the students will create a working prototype of a virtual or augmented reality application. For this the students will go through different phases of brainstorming, conceptualisation and implementation. For each of those phases students will learn the appropriate tools and methods to support them. The students will work in interdisciplinary teams to cover areas like project management, marketing, software engineering.
The use case for the applications will be provided by a partner company.
Learning Content
- Characteristics of VR/AR application
- Application areas for VR/AR
- User experience & Interaction
- Technology stack & Devices
- Frameworks & Tools
Methods
I3, International, Interdisciplinary and Intercultural: Students from different countries, cultural backgrounds and disciplines will be working together in teams.
Creativity: To find and create the application concept students will learn and directly apply a number of different techniques, like brainstorming, conceptualisation, 3D-modeling/prototyping.
Management: For their case study students will be introduced to a number of managerial methods and apply them, like project planning, budgeting, marketing plan, going to market strategy, operations plan, business model canvas.
Software engineering methods: For a prototypical implementation of their application concept students will learn about different architectures for VR/AR, modeling & prototyping.
User Experiences Design methods: To create a VR/AR experience that is tailored to a specific target group, students will use personas, user stories, storyboards and learn about different interaction techniques in VR/AR.
Organizational Framework
The BIP spans over seven consecutive calendar weeks (CWs). It starts with a virtual phase, followed by a presence phase of one week (block week) and a virtual phase as shown in the table below:
The schedule for the block week is planned as follows:
