Workshop on how to run Cross-border Projects
International projects in higher education are one of the most important tools to foster deeper and more sustainable cooperation among universities. During the ISC 2024, most of the partners join based on an ongoing cooperation in international projects, e.g. funded by Erasmus+ or by DAAD. Meanwhile, a body of methods and best practices has evolved on how to apply for such projects and how to run them successfully. Within our consortia, we started to compile guidelines and collect tools.
The goal of the workshop is to introduce and systemise these methods and best practices. Participants are expected to contribute their experiences and ideas. The workshop has two immediate goals: 1) we want to compile a methods handbook for international cooperation projects, and 2) we want to initiate new funding applications for the future of our partnerships and consortia.

Project-based learning is a common didactic format in higher education. The workshop will dive into the methods for conducting projects with students from different countries, participating on-site (e.g. in a summer school) or in a virtual setting. This format borrows ideas from (COIL). In the international networks of Fachhochschule Dortmund, we conduct such (virtual) cross-border projects for many years.

For prior reading, we recommend our ICL2023 paper “Competence-based Support for Project-based Learning in Virtual Settings” (https://link.springer.com/chapter/10.1007/978-3-031-26190-9_25). The goal of the workshop is to familiarise with the didactic format, to share experiences and best practices, and hopefully to initiate 2-3 joint cross-border projects for the coming year.

The materials for the workshop can be found here.
