💬 Hi Zekarias! Nice to meet you. Where are you from?
«I am originally from Ethiopia.»
💬 What is your Study Program?
«I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in Digital Transformation at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts.»
💬 Why did you decide to study the program?
«I chose to study Digital Transformation because of its growing importance in shaping the future of various industries. The program at Dortmund University offers a well-rounded and hands-on educational experience, with a strong focus on practical skills. This emphasis on practical skills is what makes it an ideal choice for my academic and professional goals.»
💬 Where have you worked before? Are you working now?
«Before embarking on my master’s journey, I gained valuable work experience at Ethiopian Airlines, where I served as an Application Support Officer and Database Administrator for a period of two years. Currently, I am working as a Student Application Developer at RWE Supply and Trading GmbH while focusing on my studies.»
💬 What are you doing now?
«I am currently immersed in my master’s thesis, where I am exploring the state-of-the-art technology and approaches to address the existing service gap, specifically targeting the Ethiopian community living in Germany. This research aims to fulfill critical gaps in services through innovative technological solutions.»
💬 What do you like most about this study program?
«What I appreciate most about the Digital Transformation program at FH Dortmund is its dynamic and forward-thinking approach. The courses are designed to provide not only theoretical knowledge but also a strong emphasis on practical skills. This hands-on educational experience better prepares students, like myself, for our future careers by allowing us to apply theoretical concepts in real-world scenarios.»
💬 The story of success: You got the Award of the German Academic Exchange Service during the The Academic Annual Ceremony in 2023. What have you done that brought you there?
«As you’re aware, there are several selection criteria, but if you ask me specifically about social commitment, I am actively involved in my local Ethiopian orthodox Tewahedo church community in Düsseldorf, contributing as a deacon and demonstrating strong social commitment. Additionally, I take on the rewarding role of teaching children within the church, further enriching my engagement and support for the community. Furthermore, being focused is the basic way that leads us to intentional living. Having a plan and making an effort for it will pay off and lead to success. I came from a very rural area, but that doesn’t stop me from going for my dreams and making a difference in every aspect of my life. With God’s help, within the next few years, I plan to have my own company that will make a difference in the community. »
