On 14 July 2025, representatives from Fachhochschule Dortmund and Universidad del País Vasco (UPV/EHU) Bilbao came together in Bilbao to plan their upcoming Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) two joint educational initiatives that highlight the growing cooperation between the two institutions.
The meeting focused on aligning the details of two co-organised BIPs:
BIP on Sustainability and Quality
- 📍 Location: UPV/EHU Bilbao
- 📅 Dates: 21–30 November 2025
- This programme will explore sustainability principles in engineering and business contexts, with a strong focus on quality assurance and impact assessment.
BIP on Information Processing and Data Analytics
- 📍 Location: Fachhochschule Dortmund
- 📅 Dates: 1–5 December 2025
- This programme will introduce participants to practical and theoretical approaches in data analysis, machine learning, and the digital transformation of industry.
Both BIPs are designed to combine online preparatory work with intensive on-site teaching and collaboration, bringing together students and academic staff from across Europe.
A Growing Network of Partners
Alongside FH Dortmund and UPV/EHU, several other partner institutions are contributing to the development and implementation of these programmes, including:
- KU Leuven (Belgium)
- IMC Krems (Austria)
- University of Applied Sciences BFI Vienna (Austria)
- …and additional institutions.
Key Outcomes of the Meeting:
During the productive working session, partners:
- Confirmed the dates and thematic focus of both BIPs
- Discussed the logistics of student and staff participation from each university
- Reviewed existing inter-institutional agreements to ensure administrative readiness
- Defined the roles and contributions of each institution in both programmes
- Discussed student selection, communication strategies, and expected outcomes
This meeting marks an important step in preparing high-quality, international learning experiences under the Erasmus+ programme framework. The emphasis on co-creation, mutual support, and transdisciplinary learning reflects the shared values and ambitions of the partner universities.
What Are Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs)?
Erasmus+ Blended Intensive Programmes (BIPs) are short-term, cross-border learning experiences that combine virtual collaboration with a physical mobility component. They promote innovation in teaching, international teamwork, and interdisciplinary learning, all within a compact and accessible format.
The successful collaboration between FH Dortmund and UPV/EHU once again demonstrates how European higher education institutions can work together to shape future-oriented, sustainable, and inclusive learning opportunities.
