PIM Workshop – 1,000 Applications, New Features and Fresh Impulses for a Rollout

The workshop on the PIM platform in Berlin took place on September 25, 2025. Carsten Wolff and Olesja Nachtigall participated.

Developed with universities, for universities

The digitalization of recognition procedures at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts is moving into the next phase. At the current PIM workshop in Berlin, university staff exchanged insights on their experiences since now more than 1,000 applications have been submitted via the Platform for International Student Mobility (PIM).

PIM was created as a BMBF-funded project in collaboration with eight universities – with Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts involved from the very beginning. The platform digitizes recognition and credit transfer processes, from achievements abroad to university transfers, all within a modern, browser-based workflow.
Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts is currently testing PIM in three international Master’s programmes – and interest in a university-wide rollout is high.

The workshop focused on experiences from the tests and ongoing use of the platform. Particular attention was given to the more than 1,000 applications submitted in the system, which provide a solid basis for comparing developments since the last workshop and identifying emerging trends. Discussions covered, among other things:

  • experiences and strategies for a successful introduction of PIM
  • helpful handouts and checklists that have already been developed
  • new features for students and Hochschulmitarbeitende
  • development potential, for example relating to connections to archiving or additional campus management systems
  • approaches for involving further faculties and departments

Workshop conclusion: clearer requirements, new impulses and concrete development requests that will now flow into the next expansion phase. With these outcomes, Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts continues on its path toward making digital recognition procedures available university-wide and further strengthening a modern, internationally compatible recognition practice.
