Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts welcomes to the international research and teaching exchange at the Dortmund International Winter School from the 11th till the 19th November 2021 in Dortmund.

Students will work on research topics in the following streams: Model Based Systems Engineering, Project Management – IPMA basic certification, Indoor positioning based on the UWB technology, Robust system single-board computer systems for rapid prototyping purposes, and Human Centered Digitalization.

Model Based Systems Engineering

This course gives an overview about the recent state of the art in model-based systems engineering with a focus on the emerging trends in automotive systems and transfers recent findings into teaching.

The student will learn how to explore and structure models of automotive systems especially in the context of hardware/software co-design and how to map the acquired skills and knowledge to that particular domain. Furthermore, the students will learn about developing and integrating their own rudimentary tooling into the APP4MC platform.

For EuroMPM master students: to get the course recognised in your studies, you must pass the final certification/ Test on IPMA (UPMA level E).

In case you fail the certification, just follow the second possible alternative.
The certification is for free for the registered students.

This course will introduce the History of project management, Global trends in project management, PM world, and PM standards. Furthermore, you will get a full overview of the PM Methodology based on project phases and Project Organisation, and Roles. At last, Agile project management will be presented as well as the IPMA competence model.
The IPMA Level E course is a full block week course of 40 presence hours.

Indoor positioning based on the UWB technology

Students will be given instruction for acquiring, processing UWB positioning systems at the laboratory: low level configuration of the Tag and Anchors based on the STM Nucleo development board, point to point ranging, determining accuracy and delay of the ranging process, positioning in 2D/3D environment, data processing from the designed system and acquire other movement parameters for evaluation, e.g. AHRS, encoders. Application of the trilateration algorithm and smoothing data filtration to show the tracking trail of an object.

Data comes from the UWB positioning system (based on decawave quorvo modules), i.e. system has 4 reference points (anchors) and a tag (tracked object, e.g. AGV or bike).

Hint: Position estimation can be obtained by Nelder Mead or the least square methods.

Digitalization in private and professional domains is influencing intensely and sometimes even revolutionizing people’s life, the way they interact with systems, the way they interact between each other, the way society changes.

Within this course, those influences will be addressed from two different viewpoints. From an analytical perspective, former and current developments and their influences will be analyzed and then projected on future trends. From a constructive perspective, those potential influences of e.g. a product or service currently in development will be taken into account to shape the prospective solution.

Robust setup of a single board computer for rapid prototyping purposes in the context of automotive software/hardware. Setup shall be robust against hard shutdowns due to user misuse and power supply issues.

SW and/or HW solution, test setup, test report, documentation of solution.

Winter School on Advanced Perspectives on Data Science

The Winter School addresses Master Students from 

  • Dortmund University of  Applied Sciences and Arts (FH Do);
  • National University “Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic” (NU-ZP);
  • West Ukrainian National University (WUNU);
  • Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA);
  • Lviv Polytechnic National University (LPNU).  

The master students from other universities are also welcomed to take part in the event.

The Winter School, based on the ViMaCs project funded by DAAD, is covering   such topics as: 

  • Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics; 
  • Business Intelligence and Decision Making;
  • Cloud Based Data Processing Systems; 
  • Data Acquisition and Processing. 

The project “Virtual Master Cooperation Data Science” (ViMaCs) aims to build a virtual learning and lab infrastructure for a digital teaching and module portfolio in the field of “Data Science”. 

Lecturers and workshops will be taught in English. The Winter School 2021 is free of charge. 

ATTENTION! In order to be able to participate in the on-site Winter School all students must be either vaccinated by one of the recognized in Germany vaccines or be recovered from COVID-19 during the last 6 months. 

Training Week for Teachers (Hybrid)

The Training Week addresses teachers, lecturers, trainers, and academic staff from our European, Azerbaijan, Ukrainian, Kazakhstan, and Palestinian partners.   

A series of trainings will be offered at Dortmund University of Applied Sciences and Arts during the Training week: 

  • Open Communities of Practice (OpenCoPs); 
  • Introduction to Agile;
  • Jira Software; 
  • Confluence; 
  • MS Teams; 
  • and others. 

With the training on OpenCoPs, participants will gain knowledge on what it is, how it functions and what is needed for its proper operation. Furthermore, with Confluence, MS Teams and Jira trainings the attendants will gain insights of tools that facilitate a collaborative working environment, manage the work by using a ticketing system and help with the community management in the OpenCoPs. 

Overall, the trainings complement each other, providing knowledge on a good working environment in the OpenCoPs and any “agile” team. This training is specifically helpful for your collaboration in our projects.  

The Training Week is free of charge and will be held in English. 

The Training Week will be held as a hybrid event in Dortmund and via the online platform Microsoft Teams. The instructions and access data will be sent to the registered participants in a separate email closer to the event.
