Train-the-Trainer: English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) is successfully over

The Train-the-Trainer event with the topic «English as Medium of Instruction» has taken place at FH Dortmund on 14-18th of November.

The event was organized in 2 thematic streams, offered by different organizations:

  • Effective teaching using English as a Medium of Instruction “A practical approach”, offered by the Language School Stevens;
  • Effective English Medium Instruction– tools and principles for academic faculty, held by the Norwich Institute for Language Education (NILE).

Among the participants of the training were representatives of such universities as Zaporizhzhia Polytechnic National University(NU-ZP), Kyiv National University of Construction and Architecture (KNUCA), Kaunas University of Technology (KTU), University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU), and other partner universities.

During the 5 days of full-time training, the participants have been learning about the advantages of English as a Medium of Instruction (EMI) in higher education, strategies to facilitate comprehension, ways of managing a multilingual classroom, and other aspects of teaching in a sphere, where the English language is neither the mother tongue of the teachers nor in many cases the mother tongue of their students.
